Our Gemini shows are fast approaching and I’ve been holed up for the past couple weeks combing through everything. It’s been in my head for a while now that I’d like to make more videos of this kind of thing for anyone who’s curious. I get asked about my creative process a lot and have always had such a deep appreciation for artists that talk openly about how they make things. It sometimes feels like there’s a risk of spoiling the magic by opening the hood on my songs, but I honestly think it’s worth it even if only a handful of people get something from it.
Where better to start than the first song of the first record? These sessions haven’t been touched in 16 years! It’s crazy to me how little is really going on here.
This isn’t a tutorial so much as a peek inside. I’ve got sessions from nearly every era of Wild Nothing and tons of other more recent production projects that I’d love to dissect with paid subscribers in greater detail moving forward!
